Speaking to one of my sources, he made the point that for someone to get to the point where they think of selling themselves, they already have to be regarding their body as a commodity. I think the industry reinforces that attitude and sets it in stone, but the underlying dispassion has to be there for them to even think of going into the industry.
And look, not every worker feels dispassionate about every client. One of them had a regular, who has made a booking with them every second week for two years. The worker spoke of that client with... fondness, almost. He was a known quantity, behaved well, the worker knew what to expect.
I think that the level of dispassion depends on the individual worker and their experiences. It is possible that a worker would never have a bad client. Not likely but possible.
