Ooh, now this is interesting. Closed canon gives you the ability to write the fixit fic: I have read fixit fics that were written in non-closed canon (*cough* Buffy *cough) and... simply because the writers of canon chose to go in such a different direction, mostly it seems less satisfying than the show. I don't know why.
I think I prefer closed canon in many ways: there are always holes where I go "But what about?". With open canon, it's like trying to find a firm footing on quicksand: the ground keeps moving under you.
Mind you: I am a fan of Oz, and if there is any show that just NEEDS fixit fics, it is that one. I am still not sure whether to acknowledge the existance of season 6 yet. *adjusts her tinhat*
