Discussion space - the floor is yours...

Potential points to consider (not exhaustive, just to get you going):
Does the fact that you'll never get 'jossed' again make you feel more adventurous about what you might write?

How will you feel if your ship is firmly put out of action once and for all by death or dismembement or any other means? Will you ignore the canon and soldier blithely on, or will you bow to the will of JKR and move on?

Does the looming of The End mean you are considering your own place in the HP fandom? Do you still want to keep going even when there is no official new material coming out? Is there a difference between the closing of canon from a book source as opposed to a visual media source?

Do you think there will be any restructuring in the fandom as a result? What form do you thing it will take.

I have to say I'm a reader, not a writer but as long as the fics keep coming I'll keep reading. Shipping wars aren't a problem for me because the only ship I ever boarded in the HPverse (HMS Moonstar) was blasted out of the water by book 5 anyway and yet people still kept writing for that ship long after it sank (and may still do but I've been away from that fandom for a while now although R/S will always be my main OTP).

With the end in sight I think I'll remain where I've always been, lurking around the outside looking in and admiring everyone elses talents where mine fail. I'll keep delving into the fandom whenever I need an R/S "fix" and once I've had my fill I'll abandon it again until the next time.

I think there is a difference between the closing of canon between the two because you won't find anything in the films which doesn't feature in the book so it's not as if the films can have a different ending or whatever because they are based on the book.

I think fandom itself will keep going as long as it gains the ideas from canon. And in a canon as large as HP that has the potential to be a very long time. New people will come to the canon in years to come and may well find their way to the fandom because of that and each person will bring new ideas and a new perspective on the HPverse and that will set everything off again hopefully.

Look at what people have done to the due South fandom. That had technically been "over" for about ten years now but the dSverse is as strong and vibant as ever. We may only be a smallish fandom now but we're better off for it at the moment and to be honest what with the re-runs on t.v, the boxsets more or less just been released and as fandoms collide on the internet, especially in places like LJ, I think this fandom has the potential to become huge again. Whether it will or not remains to be seen.
