Discussion space - the floor is yours...
Potential points to consider:
What gets your goat when you read dialogue? Is it different for different fandoms, different characters? Why is that?
What, to you, is authentic dialogue? Where can you find it?
How do you feel about ellipses? Do people really talk in full sentences the whole time?
How do you feel about people representing accent or dialect in dialogue? What works for you and what doesn't?
Does the wrong turn of phrase or choice of word for a character throw you out of the story?
Do people have more trouble writing characters from other cultures? Is this just a matter of idiom or is there more to it?

Possible points to consider (not exhaustive, just to get you going):
1. The inaccessability of non-obvious smut--where's the payoff?
2. Is our embarassment on this directed by our perceived notion of gender roles, given that fandom is possibly a mostly female space?

Potential points to consider (not exhaustive, just to get you going.):
What's new in dS fandom these days? Pairings? Genres? Comms?
Where does the impetus come from and why?
How does dS manage to retain such a loyal fan following?
Is dS fandom really a shiny place to be or do old divisions still lurk? What impact does this have on new people finding the show/fandom?

Potential points to consider (not exhaustive, just to get you going):
Your show is cancelled. Do you cling or move on?
If you stay, what can you do to keep people's interest in the show alive? Run challenges? Hold viewing parties? RPG?
How do you bring new people into a fandom that's got nothing new to offer in terms of canon? How do you keep them there?
Do your own feelings towards the show change over time given increasing distance from the heady days of when you got a new episode every week to when the new shinies start to look increasingly attractive? What can you do about that? Do you want to do anything about it?

Potential points to consider (not exhaustive, just to get you going):
Does the fact that you'll never get 'jossed' again make you feel more adventurous about what you might write?
How will you feel if your ship is firmly put out of action once and for all by death or dismembement or any other means? Will you ignore the canon and soldier blithely on, or will you bow to the will of JKR and move on?
Does the looming of The End mean you are considering your own place in the HP fandom? Do you still want to keep going even when there is no official new material coming out? Is there a difference between the closing of canon from a book source as opposed to a visual media source?
Do you think there will be any restructuring in the fandom as a result? What form do you thing it will take.

Meta Schedule
Mar. 27th, 2007 06:23 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
We've finalised the meta schedule. Included are both
muskratjamboree and
rat_jam exclusive panels. There's something for everyone from multi-fandom questions to character specific. Bolded titles means that essays or discussion questions have been submitted. For those panels where we have no specific meta, a post will be opened to allow free discussion on the topic. Please remember the rules of
rat_jam and have a lot of thinky fun!
How it works: There will be posts posted at the times stated on the schedule. We will have a link in the sidebar to a 'collection point' where you can browse the topics to find what you want if you can't be there at the scheduled time. All posts will stay in place, but we cannot guarantee a timely mod response after the specified hour.
If you're suddenly struck by a last minute idea, never fear, just drop a line to thecatthatwalkedalone @ blueyonder dot co dot uk and we'll fit you into the schedule. The more the merrier.
Finally, mod help is still welcomed. It's a fairly easy job – the Track This button is your friend – so shouldn't interfere with your viewing/attempts to remember to eat, sleep, feed the cat... Just comment to this post and let us know what you're interested in.
Don't forget to check back to see what's new.
Thanks go to
silverakira who did the hard html work for the
muskratjamboree timetable which this is based on.
