Hi everyone! Fancy doing your bit to make the weekend run smoothly and earning our undying gratitude?

Some of our meta writers are unable to mod their own panels due to other commitments so this is where you come in. The role of mod is fairly simple, the panel will be posted due to a prearranged schedule. Discussion will then, hopefully, ensue. The mod needs to keep an eye on the panel, report flamers or trolls and, preferably, reply to comments to keep the discussion going. We will be keeping an updated list of panels that need mods, so keep checking back to see if there are topics that interest you.

If you want to volunteer, please comment to this post or e-mail thecatthatwalkedalone @ blueyonder dot co dot uk stating the panel you wish to mod, your time-zone and availability over [livejournal.com profile] rat_jam weekend. You can also request to see a copy of the text for your panel before it is posted so you have time to gather your thoughts.

Panels that require mods:

1. How to Choose CoC: A guide to finding the Character of Color Who Speaks to You ([livejournal.com profile] witchqueen) [multi-fandom]

2. Captain Jack Harkness: Shallow Con Man with Hidden Depths ([livejournal.com profile] bluealbertaskys) [Torchwood]

3. Betrayal and Abandonment Issues in our Heroes ([livejournal.com profile] bluealbertaskys) [due South, Harry Potter, Torchwood]

Thank you!

And if any of you are thinking 'I'd rather write some myself' - great! We'd love it! There's still time to submit meta. Just e-mail the above address, state your topic, write it, edit it and send it to us as soon as you can.

OK, guys, it's time for the final screening poll. This time, we'd like you to choose FIVE things total that you most want to watch (that's five over both questions, not five per question).

Then for your five picks, please fill out the text boxes with the FIVE episodes of each series that you most want to watch, or comment if there's not enough room. This is your final vote on episodes - we'll be using the answers to finalise the schedule. Please specify which series each answer applies to, and include the episode number of the episodes, too - your mods aren't all familiar with every fandom. For instance, one of someone's episode picks might read: Torchwood: 102 Day One, 104 Cyberwoman, 108 They Keep Killing Suzie, 112 Captain Jack Harkness, 113 End of Days.

The poll will close 48 hours from now (that's 10pm Thursday Boston/Eastern time), so get your vote in quick, and please help spread the word to make sure everyone gets a chance to vote!

We'll guarantee that the most popular choices will get a showing, but since this chat is spanning 19 time zones, we can't guarantee that it will be at a reasonable time for everybody. (Also, what's a con without sleep deprivation? :D)

The last question is optional, but knowing roughly what time zone people are in will help us when we put together the schedule.

More information coming soon in a locked post in the comm, so don't forget to join as well as watch, if you haven't already.

Since the chat will be run based on Boston time (Eastern time), here are a couple of useful links for keeping track of time zones: The World Clock, and for Firefox users, the Foxclocks extension does the same thing in your browser.

ETA: If you don't have a preference about which episodes of your chosen series to watch, you can leave the episode questions blank (and of course, if you've chosen movies for some of your picks, a question about episodes isn't applicable), but if ten people vote for a show but only one person requests specific episodes, then you can guess which eps are going on the schedule. :) Feel free to make less specific choices, too - for instance, you might nominate, say, Stargate SG:1, anything from season 1.

This link lets you edit your selections if you've already filled out the poll.

This is the first stage, and absolutely everyone can take part in this, whether you're a writer, artist, reader, lurker, whatever. All you have to do here is provide prompts.

Quick outline of the battle:
1. Stage 1: We'll be collecting prompts on this post from now until Sunday, March 25 at midnight (EST).
2. Stage 2: We'll post a (hopefully) huge list of prompts on Tuesday, March 27.
3. You'll have a week to write/draw/manip/vid/icon/whatever the most creative bit of whatever you can create from any of the prompts.
4. You can make as many entries as you want – We are not going to limit the creative output! And there won't be any assignments – multiple people can use the same prompts and you can use your own prompts if you want.
5. The entries will be limited to what will fit in one comment (4,300 characters). We'll post full details on the prompt post on March 27.

Now, for the prompts!
1. You can post as many prompts as you like! The more the merrier, seriously. There cannot be too many prompts.
2. We are keeping the prompts simple – just a fandom, character/pairing/threesome/moresome, and a single prompt word if you want.
3. Just about anything goes – any fandom (TV, book, movie, comic, whatever), including real person fiction, het, slash, solo sex, orgies, aliens! Just no under age real person fiction, please.
4. If you've left some prompts and want to add more (up until the closing time for prompts), that's fine, but please leave them all in a comment to the post, not a reply to your original comment. That way we'll be able to skim down the post without having to click on threads to find prompts.
5. Please, please, please, leave them in the exact format below and MAKE SURE TO SPELL OUT THE ENTIRE FANDOM NAME (it'll make it a million times easier for us when it comes to copy, pasting and sorting):

Fandom, pairing, prompt word (if any)
or
Crossover, fandom 1/fandom 2, pairing, prompt word (if any)

For example, I might suggest:

Crossover, Due South/Torchwood, Captain Jack Harkness/Constable Benton Fraser, rank
Sports Night, Natalie/Dana
Gilmore Girls, Dean/Lorelei, sweet
Sandman, Dream/Death, ice cream
Heroes, Claire, literature
Firefly, Simon

So, on your mark, get set ... PROMPT!

rules stolen from [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis and her AMAZING porn battle

Prompting now over. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed!

Hi! I figured it was time to get the ball rolling on the screening chat schedule, so here's a preliminary poll. Vote for as many options as you like - at this point, we're narrowing the options down, and in a few days we'll do a final vote, including which episodes of each series to watch. We're aiming to fill 24-36 hours, including possibly repeating some things, since not everyone can be awake and around the whole time.

I've tried to include every series I could think of that might have fans here, but if I've left something out (entirely possible), or there's another series or movie that you really want to see, fill out the text box or leave a comment.

Hi! This post is to say we are throwing out the deadline for non-MJ meta! I've edited the meta info post to reflect the new and excitingly squishy timeline. \o/

Which is to say, hi! We want your meta!! Pick a fandom and write a post about the significance of something. We have some great stuff already on tap, but we want MORE. Because more is awesome.

In short:

1. Call dibs on your topic.
2. Write (proof, edit, etc.) it.
3. Send it to us.

Yay!!

Also, I have about sixteen thousand ideas for things people can ramble on about, so if you wanna brainstorm stuff, either email me or comment here & we can toss some ideas around. :)

1. I Ran a Secret Santa Three Times. This Is What I Learned. ([livejournal.com profile] witchqueen) [multi-fandom]

2. "Life on Mars" - Intentional Homoeroticism - a nod to 70s Cop Shows? Or more? ([livejournal.com profile] lozenger8)

3. Masculinities in "Firefly". ([livejournal.com profile] executrix)

4. Captain Jack Harkness: Shallow Con Man with Hidden Depths ([livejournal.com profile] bluealbertaskys) [Torchwood]

5. Betrayal and Abandonment Issues in our Heroes ([livejournal.com profile] bluealbertaskys) [due South, Harry Potter, Torchwood]

6. Rentboy!fic and the Sex industry. Squicks, kinks, reality and fandom and the intersection between them ([livejournal.com profile] jamethiel_bane) [multi-fandom]

7. SGA Codes Of Conduct (who can have sex with whom in Atlantis) ([livejournal.com profile] sageness)

8. OT What? Thoughts on Shipping, Pairings, and being a general multifannish whore ([livejournal.com profile] sansets [multi-fandom]

There's still plenty of time to submit meta ideas. All those innermost thoughts you have about how due South is a modern Commedia dell'arte, or how SGA would be perfect if only there were more tentacles, or how Torchwood is freaking you out with all the canon slash because what happened to all that subtext? - we want to hear them.

Invitation to Meta!

We are coordinating with the official [livejournal.com profile] muskratjamboree Panel Mods for those panels to have an online presence (at least where the mods have the time and energy to participate here, too)!

In addition to the MJ Panels, we are opening the floor to accept additional (non-MJ) panel topics!

If you want to be a part of the Meta, please send a note to thecatthatwalkedalone @ blueyonder.co.uk with your proposed meta topic as soon as you can, and as long as it follows the guidelines for excellent panel suggestions given in the MJ panel rules, it's yours! Smart, fabulous meta discussion in any fandom or about fandom is welcome!

We'll keep an updated list of panel topics in the community, so you know what to expect and what hasn't been covered yet.

After you've received confirmation for your topic, submit your essay any time! We'd like to have your post as soon as possible, to avoid the last minute scramble, but talk to us if you have concerns -- we're flexible. :)

Please note: Essays should be at least 500 words minimum. They also should be proof-read final drafts correctly formatted for LJ. We won't have time to do any editing, so please, please have someone beta your essay before you submit it!

As long as we have your essays ahead of time, they'll be part of the Scheduled Meta throughout the weekend, so the sooner we have them, the better. Once your essay goes up, we invite you to Track the post and manage the discussion in comments. :)

Thank you!!
